Over the summer, I had the fun opportunity to capture Emily and Joey’s engagement photos in Detroit on a sailboat in the Detroit river! Emily and Joey both love the water, and they even worked together to restore a 1970s sailboat back in 2020!

These two met when they both lived in California. They actually met in the funnest way: Santa Con, where everyone dresses as Santa! How fun?! These two have so many fun memories together, and I loved being part of these new memories created during their engagement session! They recently moved to Michigan, where Emily’s family is from, and will be getting married next year at the Saint Clair Inn to continue the water theme running through their story.

We arrived at the located about 30 minute before our scheduled trip so we can take some photos at the nearby park. From the bay, we were able to take some fun engagement photos with sailboats and water in the background. This also added some variety to their Detroit engagement photos

Detroit Engagement Photos with Detroit Sails

Detroit Sails is located at the very end of Maheras-Gentry Park in Detroit. They offer private sails down the Detroit River for all sorts of parties or just date nights. Trips can be multiple hours long, but for this photoshoot we opted for just one hour, which was perfect for us. The ships also allow drinks and food, so added some champagne to add for some fun photos!
