Bringing home your first baby comes with all sorts of emotions: excitement, nervousness, maybe even relief. One of the reasons I love offering in-home newborn photography in Waterford is to offer parents the option to be in the comfort of their own home. 

In-home newborn photography is one of my specialties as a photographer! I have taken courses and mentorships to make sure your baby is safely posed so you can have peace of mind during the process. Since I am based in Waterford, MI, it’s a special privilege for me to take photos for fellow Waterford residents!

Posed Newborn Photography

At Savvy Shoots, I offer a mix of wrapped and lifestyle images. This means that I will take a few photos of your baby swaddled and usually in some type of basket, as well as some more candid photos of you holding your baby. This allows us to have a variety of photos for your newborn.

Posed photos allow me to position the baby in a way that allows me to get clear shots of their face. Most newborns loved to be swaddles, so this usually helps them to stay calm and comfortable during the shoot. I always bring a variety of fabrics and swaddles and some accessories for these photos.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

Lifestyle newborn photography refers to a more candid, documentary approach of photography. This is what really showcases your day-to-day life. Some parents choose to keep their baby undisturbed in a swaddle for these, and some like to put the baby in a more everyday outfit. The Glinskis chose to change their little one for some more casual photos.

With lifestyle newborn photos, I like to showcase the nursery and have parents hold the baby as naturally as possible. One of my favorite photos is shooting over the parents shoulder on the couch as they look at their baby. It’s even better when the baby is awake so we can catch their pretty eyes!

Booking Newborn Photography in Waterford

When is the best time to book newborn photos? Believe it or not, the best time to book newborn photos is before the baby is born! Once you’re in your second or early third trimester, reach out to some local newborn photographers to start gathering pricing and information. This way you won’t need to rush when baby is here!

When you book the maternity and newborn bundle with Savvy Shoots, you save some money as well! You’ll want to book your maternity photos about 4-6 weeks before the baby is due. We’ll also reserve a tentative date on the calendar for newborn photos based on your due date to make sure we have dates available when your baby makes their arrival.
