Downtown Detroit is one of my favorite locations to take elegant engagement photos. Historic buildings with grand architecture create some of the most beautiful backdrops! When looking for places to take engagement photos in Downtown Detroit, Book Tower is always one of my recommendations!
The Book Tower was built in the 1920’s, and it was once Detroit’s tallest building. Its Roman-influenced architecture makes it an easily recognizable landmark in the heart of downtown. The building has a long and rich history, which you can learn more about here. Today, the structure has been completely restored. Walking into the lobby is like walking back in time!
Photos at Book Tower
If you’re looking for a unique location for engagement photos, Book Tower can give you classic architecture to do just that. The management allows engagement photos in Book Tower with a reservation. I recommend planning this at least two weeks before your session in order to get in contact with the right people.
Engagement photos are permitted on the first and second floor of the building only. Usually permission allows a 30-minute time frame. This is a great location to add in with some outdoor city photos, or to mix in with engagement photos at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Photography is only permitted during weekdays, so you’ll want to plan accordingly. I always recommend taking a day off work and making a whole day all about you two and wedding planning!
Book Tower also hosts some bars and restaurants. I recommend making reservations at one of these locations after your engagement photos so you can relax and enjoy a date night with your loved one. You’re already dressed up anyways, right?
